Newest Hanks & More Fine Furniture store wins Environmental Award

Little Rock- The “Green Development Award “ from the City of Rogers, Arkansas was presented to Steve Roberts at a meeting of the 4 cities of Northwest Arkansas, Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville late spring.
The award is given for environmental design both interior and exterior in planning and development.

The Building Design and More

This building is the second of its type that Hanks & More has built in the last two years.

The design is a radical change from other Hank’s showrooms. Energy consumption has been a consideration throughout the construction process. The water in the Fountain at this entrance is recycled. The carpet and the carpet adhesive is CRI (Carpet and Rug Institute) Green Label. This means it exceeds the environmental regulations. The landscape irrigation uses bubblers for irrigating trees. Sprayer heads will be used in the lawn areas. Many of the areas are mulch to cut down on the amount of area to be mowed.

We also have a fire lane and overflow parking area that uses a plastic geo grid filled with dirt and sod. This allows for less asphalt paving area and satisfies our green area requirements as well as required parking.

As we started filling the store with furniture, all the cardboard, Styrofoam and plastics are recycled. We do this thru the use of a compactor and a recycle machine for the foam. It is located in our Distribution Center in Little Rock. The foam machine melts the Styrofoam from a solid into a 30# ingot. These are then shipped back to manufactures that turn it into packing material or peanuts. The waste from this store will be compacted, melted down and recycled

ECO-HANKS (Building our Building)

The planning and design of the Rogers, Ark. facility started in March of 2009. The decision to proceed with construction was made in October of 2009. Plans were submitted to the City of Rogers, Ark. Planning and Zoning in late January, 2010 and a Grading permit was issued on March 10, 2010.

The facility has been completed and stocking of the store began October 15, 2010. All of this is in preparation for a Grand Opening November 26, 2010. The Rogers, Ark. facility has been patterned after a new store in Little Rock, Ark. built and opened in September 2008. Based upon our philosophy of improving everyday, all aspects of design and construction were analyzed and improved upon. In addition, the Rogers, Ark store is 91,200 Square feet versus 75,000 square feet for the Little Rock facility.

We are experienced in building GREEN and have improved in all areas based on our experience and continued advanced development of technology in LED lighting, cool roof systems, heating and air conditioning equipment, plumbing equipment and better landscape irrigation methods.
