Hank’s Fine Furnishings greatly extends showroom space

Hank’s Fine Furnishings on Walton Drive is bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside, thanks to an additional 12,000 square feet of showroom space. The furniture retailer’s expansion now shows in its new name: Hank’s & More Fine Furniture. The project took about four months complete.

“The ‘More’ means the addition of galleries,” founder Hank Browne said Thursday afternoon shortly before cutting the ribbon to mark the expansion. “We’ve been here for 25 years, and this town has supported us, and we appreciate it. When I started in the business just out of college, Texarkana was my territory when I was selling Whirlpool appliances to W.A. Chance.”

The store’s newest galleries include brands such as Thomasville, Bernhardt, Henredon, Kincaid, Lexington, Hooker and Temper-Pedic. “This is the fifth location we’ve added onto or built a new facility to be able to include these makers,” said Browne’s wife, Cathy. Other expanded locations are in Jonesboro, Little Rock and Rogers in Arkansas and Springfield, Mo. The Little Rock location was the first to expand. Cathy said Haverty’s Furniture had been the top retailer of the Thomasville line.

“There was a void here when they left. We were asked by our customers to offer these brands, and we try to accommodate,” Cathy said. Cathy said her husband is conservative when deciding where he locates a store featuring his moniker. “We’re not in the big cities like Dallas. We like smaller communities,” Cathy said. “To do business with local business owners, knowing the money goes back into the local economy and not some office somewhere else, that’s really starting to matter to people. This is a wonderful thing when you can partner with a great community. Texarkana has been really supportive of us.”

The expansion doesn’t go unnoticed in the local business community. “From the chamber standpoint, there’s a lot of emphasis always being placed on new economic growth or development. But it is sure nice to have a family like the Brownes to invest in the community,” said Mark Bledsoe, vice president of operations at Texarkana Chamber of Commerce.

“They’ve been a member for 25 years and have been a stable force in a turbulent market. There’s been a lot who have come and gone, an example such as Haverty’s, and they’ve stood the course and really made a difference in the Texarkana community. We appreciate everything they’ve done.” Hank’s Fine Furnishings, which has been in business for 36 years, is based in Sherwood, Ark. It operates 15 stores in Arkansas, Texas, Missouri, Alabama and Florida.
