Little Rock- The “Green Development Award “ from the City of Rogers, Arkansas was presented to Steve Roberts at a meeting of the 4 cities of Northwest Arkansas, Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville late spring.
The award is given for environmental design both interior and exterior in planning and development.
The Building Design and More
This building is the second of its type that Hanks & More has built in the last two years.
The design is a radical change from other Hank’s showrooms. Energy consumption has been a consideration throughout the construction process. The water in the Fountain at this entrance is recycled. The carpet and the carpet adhesive is CRI (Carpet and Rug Institute) Green Label. This means it exceeds the environmental regulations. The landscape irrigation uses bubblers for irrigating trees. Sprayer heads will be used in the lawn areas. Many of the areas are mulch to cut down on the amount of area to be mowed.
We also have a fire lane and overflow parking area that uses a plastic geo grid filled with dirt and sod. This allows for less asphalt paving area and satisfies our green area requirements as well as required parking.
As we started filling the store with furniture, all the cardboard, Styrofoam and plastics are recycled. We do this thru the use of a compactor and a recycle machine for the foam. It is located in our
